Online Dating: Getting Started

What to Write About You!

online dating author Neal D. BogosianDescribing yourself in an online dating forum can be a most harrowing dilemma. Often, when you find yourself stuck between descriptive modifiers, thoughts of your last profanity-ridden relationship and your Aunt Mable, you are much better off writing about your Aunt Mable with the big feet and oversized bosom. Why? It brings laughter. I once read that a key to a woman’s heart is making her laugh. I’d like to extend that notion right now: The key to most anyone’s heart is laughter! So keep your description light, easy and if possible, humorous! Keep it short....and sweet, because short and sweet can be sexy. Don’t forget….you are on here for a fresh start; a new experience or novel conversation, and so is everyone else.

When you write your description, make believe you are face to face for the first time, with someone you find very interesting. You don’t want to give everything away all at once, just some of the highlights. The poet and writer Rainer Maria Rilke advised that one should approach love like an amateur, giving only a little of oneself at a time, for if you give it all away at once, later you’ll have nothing left for yourself. And while it’s not about you, it is about you; because if you are not complete, your relationship will never be either. Tell of a few interests, write about a few passions….be honest....be free…then stop.
