About me
- Where I liveI live on the Lancashire/Cumbrian border in a quietish town near to both the coast and the hills and only half an hour from the Lakes. I love the peace and quiet but I do sometimes miss the proximity to all that goes on in Manchester and the long drives to watch a match.
- Where are you originally from?Am originally from the North Manchester/Salford area. Was born in Radcliffe, near Bury and brought up in Worsley (if I'm being posh) or Walkden/Little Hulton (if I'm not!). Lived in St Albans for a while, as well as working in the Wiltshire area after leaving Uni in Leicester.
- Do you want to stay there?Like the area here but not sure if I could stay forever. Would always like to be by the coast or in a rural area. Can't see myself down south again though. Love the North Wales countryside and could see myself there at some stage. Never been interested in emigrating - I'm not comfortable in hot climates so Spain/France/Portugal/Greece etc don't interest me. Enjoyed football trips to countries such as Holland, Austria, Sweden and Germany though - Munich is a fantastic city and would also love to spend some time in Scandanavia.
- What is your occupation?I'm a qualified archaeologist and have worked for English Heritage for a few years. I'm currently working for an aquarium in Cumbria as a Talks and Tours Guide, talking to people and their little monsters, sorry, charming children, about wildlife and fish.
- What have you done so far?Worked at Old Sarum Castle near Stonehenge and Brougham Castle near Penrith for EH. When I first started work, I was an Office Junior in Manchester City Centre and was then only experience in office work, which I hated. But as dear Maggie was set on increasing the jobless, I took whatever I could and ended up in a succession of horrible secretarial jobs with evil, nasty women who discussed the soaps as though they were real people they knew. And then called ME sad!! Went to Uni to retrain for something more interesting. And to skive for 3 years!
- What are your future plans?Take every day as it comes really - no major plans for th future. Certainly not looking to settle down and have a family. Am not anti-child but definitely not maternal and have made the decision to stay 'child-free'. Winning the lottery and buying a place with loads of land for the dogs figures in my plans, but I think it's more of a dream than a plan!
- Your perfect partnerOoh, the million dollar question! I won't know until I meet him, will I? Naturally, similar interests, liking of the outdoors, desire to do something more interesting than go down the pub as a night out. Physically, nothing specific, but a David Tennant lookalike would be very nice!! Am not a drinker or a smoker and have had problems in the past with partners who drank a lot, so if your idea of fun is getting tanked up then you're probably not for me.
Stuff I like
- What are you interests/hobbies?Have been a football fan since the mid 80s. Held an LMTB in the Stretford End and latterly a Season Ticket in K Stand. Have now given up MUFCorp. for FC United, where I'm a founder member, after refusing to fund Glazer's debts. Still love the team, but hate the club. Apart from that, I love history, archaeology, nature and the most important things in my life are my dogs. My Rhodesian Ridgeback/Staffy cross and my mum's lurcher.
- MusicVery much like the indie/Madchester 90s scene and James, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc feature highly in my music collection. Also like early U2, the Levellers, David Bowie. Anything that can be played live and has a bit of something different to the lyrics. Am going to see James at Blackpool in April, and Billy Bragg in Liverpool in May.
