Whatever Gets You Through The Day

Lighthouse Family

Whatever Gets You Through The Day The first single to be taken from Whatever Gets You Through The Day, the Lighthouse Family's third album, is a cover of Nina Simone's "(I Wish I Knew How it Would Be To Be) Free"--crossed, bootleg stylee, with U2's "One". The refrain has got the outfit's signature feel-good pop written into its very heart and soul, and confirms that the Family have remained true to the sound that made them one of the biggest pop acts of the late 1990s. Although Whatever... is less schmaltzy than their last two offerings, songs of hope, light and humanity are at the core of its message. "Life's a Dream" is pure Caribbean beach cabana stuff, all lilting guitar riffs down on the sand; "Happy", a tribute to the filtered disco loops of the French house sound and, while the title track is perhaps not catchy enough to take it to number one, it's simple approach and harmonic builds defines the Lighthouse Family as we know them. --Ruby Tuesday
