| Dutch DJ/Producer Tiesto is an increasingly popular figure on the international trance scene who has already achieved chart success with anthems such as "Urban Train" and "Lethal Industry". Following some high-profile remix work for the likes of Moby and Paul Oakenfold, he now presents his debut album In My Memory, a double CD collection that holds 11 original tracks on one disc and a bunch of exclusive remixes on the other. CD 1 begins with the epic trance-a-thon "Magik Journey" and moves through typically tuff and twisted Tiesto fare such as "Obsession", "Lethal Industry", the buzzing "Flight 643" and the pumping "Suburban Train". We get a breather once or twice, thankfully, most notably on "Battleship Grey", a euphonious down-tempo offering featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw and Jan Johnston's remix of "Close To You". The second CD brings more floor-shaking action, as Tiesto's tracks are reworked by a collection of respected scenesters such as Mauro Picotto, Airwave, Way Out West, V-One, Cosmic Gate and Oliver Klein. As a debut it's not really capable of blowing anyone away, but its persistent energy levels may well leave you breathless in places. --Paul Sullivan |
